BIO

Rachel Leber was born in 1978 in Newton, Massachusetts and has been singing since she could speak. She was a very shy little girl, and reserved her singing to the privacy of her own home, and kept her brother and sister awake every night as she sang the musical 'Annie' in its entirety from her bed.

From 4th grade until her freshman year in college, Rachel sang soprano in school choirs. She sang her first solo folk-performance in tenth grade, which was a big deal as she was just beginning to come out of her shy-little-shell. She also did a handful of gospel-style acapella performances with her friend Erika during her freshman year in college, and when she came back to Newton for the summer, her friend Ben taught her three chords on the guitar.

Once she had these chords under her belt, Rachel began writing songs. Rachel started with many simple songs that would complement her soulful voice, and began playing and singing at local coffee houses and events at college. During her junior year, she formed a funk/jazz band with her good pal John Henry, and spent the next year writing and performing original funk tunes.

Rachel spent her final semester in Baja, California, where she sang at various restaurants/bars. In 2001 Rachel went to Dublin, Ireland to study Sound Engineering and Music Technology at the Temple Bar Music Centre, so she would have greater independence as a singer. She continued to play many open-mics, and wrote songs with her classmates. Upon her return from Ireland, Rachel came to Boulder, Colorado, and did everything BUT music for about two years, until the past year (2004-present) when she began singing with several local bands such as the Ordinary K, Willis, and the Sentimental Hitmen. as well as putting together various projects and benefits for a local radio station, KBFR. Recently, on April 23rd, 2005, Rachel sang at the Women.s Rockfest at the Trilogy wine bar, a benefit for a women's shelter in Peru. This was Rachel's first solo-acoustic performance since her time in Ireland, and man, did it feel good!!!

Rachel just bought a new Alvarez guitar, and is going to give playing the guitar a second chance- she is hoping it will give her one as well! It has been a full 26 years so far, and Rachel is realizing that while she has always included music as a PART of her life, it is time for music to BE HER LIFE. Prepare yourself, because there's a lot of emotion in that little girl! Stay tuned for upcoming performances.
